Bradwell continued their impressive start to the season with 3 more points when the hosted Codicote at the rec. A few changes to the previous double weekend with players away, aided the return of Ryan Kelsey.
Bradwell started the game dominating play without creating any clearcut chances. What they did create did not see the visiting keeper troubled, and in fact the first half chance was created by the same from a poor touch, which was nearly closed down by Winch. The keeper was certainly not the only one having issues, as the pitch was playing like concrete, it was difficult for either team to really control the ball.
A couple of efforts from Lloyd-Roberts, which caused more damage to the hedgerow, was followed by the first real opportunity of the game. After some good play by Hansen, his delivery into the box was met by Winch, who's header was directed goal-wards, but gathered by the keeper. A difficult opportunity with all of his weight going in the other direction, which took a lot of the pace off the ball.
The goal did eventually come on 33. Whilst Codicote were still appealing the decision on mass, a quick free quick was played, which enabled Zylko to get a shot off. This was deflected into the path of Winch, who finished well. 1-0.
The only other action of note in the remaining minutes of the half was when Lee, R, got a square pass a little wrong. Instead of playing it to his brother, it looked like a well hit strike towards his own goal, which resulted in a corner.
Half Time: New Bradwell 1 - Codicote 0
The start to the second half was a slow one, until a Codicote long ball upfield evaded the Bradwell defence, and fell to the busy forward, who cooly slotted home from 8 yards. 1-1.
Frustration crept in a little, and this was shown by Hawkins, who took a seat in the stand for 10, after questioning a decision from the referee. There was certainly a few of these up for debate over the course of the game. Instead of letting this situation cause more frustration Bradwell took the game by the scruff of the neck. There were a few free kicks that were awarded to Bradwell in and around the Codicote area, and this was the same on 64. An effort from Kalek was fired into the wall, and fell out to Lee, who decided to unleash a strike from 35 yards. A few deflections saw the ball fall to Kelsey, who unselfishly squared to Winch, to tap in and make it 2.
A couple of half chances followed at either end didn't really amount to anything, during which time Bradwell returned to 11 men.
The introduction of Anning on 77 brought some additional impetus to Bradwell, in search of a third, and there was no surprise when he was heavily involved in the third. Both he and Kelsey started looking dangerous and working together to find spaces between the lines, and it was during one of these plays that Kelsey found himself dribbling across the edge of the 18 yard box on 82, before unleashing a right footed strike into the bottom corner. The keeper had no chance. 3-1
The game petered out, and Bradwell took the points.
